My Bio
I knew I was going to college since I was a little girl,
however, I was not sure what I wanted to be when I grew up. This is why and to
save money, I attended Cerritos College after I graduated high school even
though I was accepted to CSU Long Beach. I thought, explore your major at a
least expensive institution. Once I pinpoint it, I can get into the best
university possible of that major. After I earned my associate of arts in
general studies from Cerritos College, I transferred to CSU Fullerton. As a
student at both institutions, I was already doing student services type work
such as an English tutor and a counseling assistant to name a few. Little did I
know at the time that these experiences were preparing me for a community
college counselor position.
Once I earned my Bachelor of Science in human services with a counseling
emphasis from CSU Fullerton, I began working. I continued to work for years in
the student services field in different positions. I didn’t think I would ever
go back to school to earn a master’s degree. As a first- generation college
student, it was very challenging for me to earn my bachelor’s degree. That
changed as I kept witnessing community college counselors do what they do. I
went back to school while working full-time as an educational advisor and I did
it! I obtained my Master of Science in college counseling and student
development from Azusa Pacific University. I have been a Pasadena City College
Counselor since.
